Since October 2012, the Brazilian Amateur Radio League (LABRE, Liga de Amadores Brasileiros de Rádio Emissão) has returned to the Monitoring System of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU-MS).

The aim is identify intruders signals into the spectrum allocated to Amateur Service, share informations with the monitors and establish international support to find solutions on the cases of interferences, in partnership with the national telecommunications administrations.

While the working groups devoted on Electromagnetic Compatibilities (EMC) make detections, studies and contributes on specialized rules for reduce the radio noise in the technological environment, considering different types of equipments (telecommunications and non-telecommunications devices), the IARU-MS is applied to direct conflicts between different telecommunications services.

The Monitoring Service always achieves important victories. In last September, 2012; were noticed the closing transmissions of Bangladesh Betar at 7105 kHz, as well other signals like CODAR and harmonics. Nevertheless, the system is facing tough challenges like pirate radios, military emissions and electronic war in regions with armed conflict, all resulting in interferences at the amateur radio bands.

The IARU-MS is an example of collaborative international work. It started in 1950´s with Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) as Intruders Watch. Nowadays the local voluntaries, representatives of national amateur radio associations and regional IARU coordinators (Region 1 for Europe and Africa, Region 2 for America and Region 3 for Asia and Oceania) constitute the system.

LABRE already composed IARU-MS in year 2000 and now returned, considering the system as one of the ways to reinforce the spectrum defense in Brazil and contribute with international amateur radio community. More information at:
