With Juan de la Cruz Rodríguez, YN1J, president of Club de Radio Experimentadores de Nicaragua (CREN), as this years General Secretary, the Federation of Radio Amateurs of Central America (FRACAP) held its 53rd. annual convention in Montelimar, Nicaragua on November 8 – 10, 2013.
The convention counted on the presence of delegates from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, who took advantage of the event to strengthen the ties that already exist between them. There was also the presence of Jonathan Siverling, WB3ERA, as special guest representing the ARRL, who is held in great esteem by all colleagues in the region, and of Marco Tulio Gudiel, TG9AGD, IARU-R2 Area D Director.
Besides the routine matters that had to be addressed, the participants were able to enjoy technical presentations of diverse nature, relevant social events and the natural beauty of the Nicaraguan Pacific Ocean beaches.
Honduras was chosen to host the next convention and our colleague Norma Leiva, HR2NL, was elected Secretary General, with her husband Cesar Pio Santos, HR2P, IARU-R2s EMCOR, elected as Assistant Secretary General. They committed to host a spectacular event next year. Our best wishes for a successful convention in 2014.
