Dear friends:

I am pleased to write to you on behalf of the Executive Committee of IARU Region 2 and myself to express our most sincere wishes for a Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2010. A lucky sign for this New Year is that we can at last see some sunspots that indicate there will be an improvement in the propagation of HF bands. In my 60 years as a ham radio operator I had never seen such a lengthy absence of solar activity as in the last two years.

I have the pleasant impression that in the year that is coming to an end there has been an increased participation of ham radio operators of the region in activities such as international contests, emergency exercises and, in some countries, more radio amateurs, as well as a greater presence of Member Societies in all these activities. The Executive Committee hopes these positive signs contribute to a better defense of the radioelectric spectrum allocated to our service, to which the EC devotes a great deal of time and effort.

Once again I extend to all of you my most sincere regards.
