Federación de Radioaficionados de Cuba (FRC) was present in the GlobalSET emergency communications exercise held on April 13 and 20, 2013, as HQ station representing IARU Region 2, with four radio operators (CO2JD, CO2MS, CM2JEC and CO2CW) in the CoA frequencies of IARU R2.

FRC also participated during the GlobalSET with 89 radio stations operating in HF and VHF/UHF from to 9 radio clubs located in different regions of Cuba.

Despite bad propagation conditions in HF during both sessions of the GlobalSET April 2013 exercise and difficulties to establish communications with radio stations from other countries in Region 2, station CO2FRC handled traffic as follows: 139 messages during the first session (103 in SSB, 2 in Digital Modes, and 34 in VHF/UHF) and 23 messages in SSB during the second session of the exercise.

Francisco Hernández Alonso, CO2HA, FRC Vice-President stated that GlobalSET April 2013, “was the first but not the last experience for many amateurs; it enabled us to verify the emergency networks of many territories and to rate their effectiveness in having the equipment, antenna and operator ready to face not only a simulation but real emergencies. This translated into benefits in organization, cohesion and response of our colleagues for this type of events”.
